Church, Again

Image
A local IFB church near my old house that had beaucoup of trouble too bizarre to detail involving a child molesting pastor. I am sitting here in all amusement watching Jim rush about madly trying to make everyone involved with his new church happy. I'm not dressed for church, I'm sitting here in my old cotton granny nightgown drinking coffee and listening to the phone conversations. He just said to me that perhaps he's too nice of a guy. You think? All this started earlier in the week when Velma, the older lady who likes to use our hot tub but has no idea how it gets hot , visited for another hot tub bout. Jim mentioned something about picking up Dave for church too, and she lost it on him, screeching she WOULD NOT ride into town, with Jim driving of course, to pick up Dave. Did I mention it's only about six minutes out of their way? Now I'm not as nice as Jim and that same afternoon I had an unfriendly exchange with Velma who started bemoaning that the virus is a...

Ridiculousness All Around

Image
Yesterday's beach view from breakfast at Johnny's.  I didn't get a photo of it but later when I was beach walking, walking off my breakfast and that morning's Pina Colada I got to see a Tico on horseback with a large old school boom box hoisted on his shoulder playing NWA's "Fuck the Police" A sight that sort of summed up the day. The last few days involve naps and running about. A Price Smart/Costco run with stops in Wal Mart and Moda Tex to get fabric to recover the chaise lounge cushions. We are both still suffering from various body boring bullshit like dizziness with the added complication of fevers, sore throats and coughing. Rona please stay away! I am annoyed because we had to go into two Coronavirus hot spots for Jim's surgery. But all of that madness was culminated in yesterday's goat rodeo two-step dance in boots on the wrong feet. Because of Jim's surgery I am the only driver now. Yesterday being Thursday was one of the two days w...

The Witches, Bitches and Bridges of Tama-El Llano

Image
This morning we had to get up bright and early to take our car to the muffler shop. Here it wasn't Midas or Pep Boys, here the shop was literally translated to "The Witch Muffler Shop" Catchy name. Middle of nowhere, up a mountain near El Llano. Had to cross the craziest bridge I've seen yet here. No sides, no hand rails, literally a slab of concreto on concrete piers. I saw that and seriously thought about turning on the four wheel drive and fording the teeny river instead. Good luck crossing this late night after a beer too many! This morning was all errands, dropping of our car for muffler repair, hitting the hardware store, followed by the computer parts place, and stopping for refreshments on the way home. Tomorrow looks like more of the same. On the way home my mother finally called. I've been calling her for over a month unable to get through. The conversation was not much better than last time, but at least this time I managed to sit down and record her ta...

Ten Thousand Things...

... to put away. Finally made it all the way to the PriceSmart/Costco in Liberia yesterday. Things were bought, things branded "Kirkland" and oodles of American foods of all stripes. I was a little disappointed. The store is much smaller and without the same items that the San Jose stores have. But, it's better than what's here now. Got a new computer, the exact same one I brought from the States in Sept, and it was almost the same price exactly as in the States. Getting decent computers here is very difficult, as most places tend to carry the bottom of the line and charge huge prices. Got enough food to last a while. Only really awful part of the day was of course...... Walmart... The country is under mandatory masking orders for everyone in public. One American couple in Walmart refused, throwing a wobbler of a hissy fit in front of everyone, stomping right in maskless and not being removed from the store. The Ugly American Aboard again. That meant that they had to ...
