Velma, Velma, Velma!

Recent Tamarindo sunset. Long time no see. We've been without internet and since it came back I've been stepping and fetching because I have a man with a cold. And you know how men are when they get colds. They are DYING! To be fair it's a bad cold for well over a week with lots of coughing. Me and my shot immune system had it for a day and a half, but I killed it hard with asthma drugs. Usual stuff going on, going back and forth to the beach, hanging out with other permanent residents here on the beach, cold be damned. Jim's very busy because he's interviewing potential students for the school he teaches for and for the scholarship program he's running now. I've been busy doing a deep clean here because I'm finally well enough to do so after months of this kidney infection. I even weeded and planted our vegetable garden this morning. Tomorrow I have sewing projects to knock out. That mending pile is higher than the tallest building in Tamarindo. But t...

Feeling Peppy & Weird Underwear Confessional

Image
Good grief! Look how short my hair is! Six years ago on one of our scouting trips to Costa Rica. Feeling much better. No recurring fever. No bitching about my lungs. Denada! I am incredibly happy because as of Sunday that will mark the first time since early February I've not be felled by anything serious for nearly two weeks. Now if those darn butt bruises would just fade more. Had a really weird conversation with the bride to be today and learned something I did not want to know about two members of the family. Me: Hey I need to buy new underwear when I arrive.  Bride: Just promise me you'll be actually wearing underwear under your dress at the wedding. Me: Of course! No commando except when in the nightgown preparing to sleep. I always try to wear underwear. Bride: Well two of the bridal party do not wear underwear and that is just nasty! Eww! I got out of her who it was and I am surprised to say the least. I'm likely to be side eyeing them.

Mike and the Engagement Rat

Pondering the surf and life. Today was all kinds of stressful in the weirdest ways. The brokerage company we've had large investments with locked me out of their website when I attempted to do what I always do. Log in through our tax software and do an electronic download of tax documents.  Nothing worked like it was supposed to and I attempted to log into the company website so I could just download the tax info and then uploaded into our return. Locked out. Told Jim to give them a call since neither of our passwords were working and I could not remember how much we had there. We'd transferred the bulk of the investments elsewhere but I knew there was something there. I don't do the monthly looking at our accounts. Jim does. His obsession, his fixation, hence the other day and his calling around to another place that hosts our investments.  Just like I figured there was little there. Jim found out there was a small amount available in my personal Roth IRA fund. T...

Bruised Asteroids

Image
Building the bullfighting ring is Villareal back before Covid. No bullfights since. Perhaps soon. My butt is bruised, in a couple of different ways. From the shots for ten days. I look like someone literally kicked my ass. The other drubbing happened when I was horsing around last night with friends on a garage sale list on Facebook. I told a stupid joke, used the word "B!sh" just as it's written there and I got a two day suspension for "Hate Speech". Plus some weeks ban from using Groups because one of the groups I'm a mod on was flagged for multiple violations. I saw all the comments reported on the group, and it was all silly joking around stuff, not serious threats or hate speech. Context is everything. Sort of like that "Let's eat grandma!" versus "Let's eat, grandma" While I'm a little annoyed with this situation I'll take my lumps and go on, knowing the bots are idiots, and knowing I have to couch my jokes and ins...

Everything But the Kitchen Sink

Last night's sunset. We've been without internet for the better part of a week. Here we are on Sunday. I have another high fever suddenly and I feel like crud, lung crud this time. So it's off to the doctor's in the morning. Ding, dong, my head is like a chime. Headache on top of the coughing and wheezing. No effing idea why the formatting is so screwed up. Going back to bed now. A Near Thunder and a Magical Place Monday was sort of an odd day. The internet kept cutting in and out just as Jim tried to call the organization holding his pension-savings. He wanted to move about his investment mix again. I swear, that man has done it practically every few months for the last few years, fretting and worrying about the economy and disaster. We all have our follies and foibles, this is his. The way we run here is that we need internet to call the States using Skype. Friends and family we use any other number of internet programs, but official stuff goes through our ...

Ice, Ice, Baby on the Butt Cheeks

Image
I wish I could blow this up enough to show you, but the rough translation says "I'm driving slowly because I have hot soup in the back seat" The last eight days is me doing a few things during the day before trudging on down to the clinic to get a shot in my ass of the new antibiotic. I've seen some strange sights on the road to and fro. One lady was walking down the middle of the road near the clinic pushing a fully loaded barbeque grill with smoke and flaming charcoals, snarling up high season traffic. Then there was the tiny car with six full size mattresses strapped to the top.  I really haven't done much except moan about how crappy I feel from the antibiotic side effects. One of which is the fact that I'm low on platelets so each time they stick me I bleed like I'm auditioning for the horror film "Carrie" and I bruise up crazy. I have an infected needle place on each butt cheek and am having to ice both cheeks a couple of times a day to r...
