Silly Pastor Boy!

 

So we talked to the pastor being deported back out of Costa Rica for vaccine snafus. I'm going to call him Skip, not his name but he looks like a Skip to me.

Remember when I was bitching and moaning much earlier in the pandemic that Costa Rica kept trying to order millions of doses of the vaccines from the U.S. and parts of Europe? So were many Central and South American nations, who got tired of tiny batches arriving. Order 3 million, receive 10 thousand was the game. Russia jumped in to supply vaccines to some of these other countries, who did vaccinate their folks using the Russian supplies.

But here's the problem, many of those Russian and some of the Asian vaccines are not accepted by Costa Rica's health dept as valid. Certainly not the Sputnik V one that Skip got in Nicaragua. There are fully posted lists of accepted and unaccepted based primarily on if the vaccine manufacturer filed for emergency use with the World Health Organization.

 The info was out there, and it changes up quite a bit. Most of us here try to stay abreast of the changes. Supposedly at the end of March they will be lifting the masking mandate here, and it will be strictly voluntary. They'd doing away with the Pase de Salud online health pass you must fill out. I suspect this health pass is the thing that tripped up Skip. It's a series of screens with drop down answers every step of the way. You have to be trying really hard to screw it up.

Found out Skip's core issue is that he ignored the drop down menu for the vaccine, even as it said quite baldly that some vaccines aren't valid here. He uploaded his vaccine card with that Sputnik V on it and got caught. I have to wonder if he just decided to ignore the insurance coverage you can get if you have the wrong vaccine. If he'd have been decent he  could have purchased, downloaded and amended his health pass and they would have very likely let him do the Rumba on through instead of deporting him.

Last night he was angrily calling down the wrath of God onto the heads of those poor Tico immigracion guys. That's just rude. Evangelical hubris in action.

Bottomless Betty and Blocking the Aunt Heap

  The Chesapeake Bay Bridge last weekend. So where have I been? Back to Louisiana and then up to Maryland. I wanted to check on my mother in her assisted living. It didn't go well at all, even if I stayed ten days. One of my aunts in the Aunt Heap nicknamed my mother 'Bottomless Betty' after she suddenly developed the inability to wear bottoms at all, no pants, no panties, no skirts. It was most bizarre and had a sudden onset. Her dementia has gone haywire in the few months she's been in assisted living. I'm not entirely sure she knew who I was either. This was a shock, her mental status slid so fast it was scary. Did what I could, talked to the folks in the admin office seeking a way to help her. My mother's doctor had tried a drug to slow the dementia but all it did was cause my mother to hallucinate.   Got home on Tuesday night, taking that long airplane ride from Washington, DC to my home near Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Strange Days and Orchids

Water feature from the Orchid Garden near San Jose. Well, it's been a strange week or two. I've lost days to this silly ankle thing. Took off the boot at a week to start doing physical therapy movements, made it two days and now the boot is back on and I'm down to two pain pills. It's healing so slowly this time. Have to do a medical follow up this week. Several days ago we went to a party for a lady we know who is throwing in the towel and going home to the U.S.A. Katie was trying to do that thing that is impossible here on the Gold Coast -- live as a gringo without a steady monthly income. Even a social security pension will not cut it here. It's expensive, but likely not as expensive as life in the U.S.A. is getting lately. Read that there has been a 40% jump in the price of vegetables and fruits last month.
