Jalopies, Holes and Narcotics

I love this statue in the park at Santa Cruz. This park has some amazing statuary depicting the important cultural aspects of the region. This one involves a sport that originated in farming towns of the Santa Cruz region, bull riding. Bull fighting, bull riding, would have been easier than dealing with the enormous a-holes we've been dealt with lately.

Old car sold. Done deal. Valuable for parts apparently. We have to go up in the next few weeks in a rental to sign the title over.

The A-hole Chronicles - Jim went to church, sure enough Davey sidled up to spout bullshit. He lied anew about hanging up on Jim the other night, claiming he was in the middle of cooking. This is a new one. Yeah, buddy whatever.

But the title of "Biggest A-hole" belongs to Bruce, the guy who jalopy we stored for two years during the Covid lockdown. We ended up eating most of the costs for the many breakdowns, the registration, insurance and inspection during that time because Bruce decided that was the price for 'renting' us his car. I moaned and bitched copiously here about the clattering clanking pile of purple nuts and bolts that was the dirtiest car in the world held together by duct tape.

We didn't charge him to store it here. It would have run easily several thousand to store it at an official storage place. We swore never again!

Bruce was ungrateful and stupid acting when he picked it up in November. Come April and his Canadian snowbird act he wanted to leave his new car with us. I wanted to say no, but Jim being Jim, trying to run for the title of nicest guy in the world said okay. We just wouldn't put money into his car, once the inspection runs out in July we're not taking it in, we're not paying the registration or insurance in December either! Boundaries, I guess.

His new old car, equally filthy and gross as the purple one, broke down in the parking lot of the local Walmart subsidiary. One replaced starter later than ran about 80 bucks.

So Jim called up Bruce, told him per what we did last time that he now owes about 40 bucks for the starter. Bruce went off on Jim this morning, said we did not have his permission to drive his car ever! Screw that, possession is 9/10s of the law and we will be using it to roll around in until we buy another car, and it will not be a rolling trash heap of stench like his cars.

Did I mention we know Bruce from church? Another self described 'Good Christian Man' trying yet again to take advantage of Jim's eager to please nature, And, oh, he hates Davey with a passion and it's mutual. I guess users hate those that they cannot use.

Pointed anew to the fact that Jim needs better friends than these two. Friends don't try to bitch you out while using you.

It's been a weird few days on social media too and I've felt most ranty. Ended up at the doctors office this afternoon with another high fever and lots of new pain. I have a bout of my old bete noire that has been silent for six years - Diverticulitis. Pain pills and new antibiotics. The only drag is that I fell asleep a hot drooly mess around 8 pm, got up at midnight and think sleep will be mostly impossible for the rest of the night.

You don't know how tempted I am to construct middle of the night voodoo dolls and stick in a few pins.

We did look at a car yesterday owned by our mechanic's cousin. A strong possibility, used but low mileage SUV in our price range. Tuesday we take Bruce's no-no car over to the dealerships in Liberia and see what's on offer. We need something like yesterday, but aren't going to snap up the first cat we look out. Screw Bruce telling us not to drive his car. So so tempted to print up a bill for the time he's stored the car here and emailing it to him.
