Tico Shuffle

Over the last few days/ week I have something new and annoying going on. A wave of Costa Ricans trying to friend me on Facebook that are friends of friends of friends.

That would be okay if it was just for friendship, but no. To a man each and every single one I have approved has fallen into one of two categories.

1 - The Tico Romance Scammer, which I think might actually be either Nigerians posing as Costa Ricans,  They pm you and say trite things like "Did it hurt when you fell from heaven gorgeous?" or immediately start flirting before asking you when you retire and how much pension you will get. Oh hell no! Blocking and deleting.

2. The second set is a bit more problematic. So far I've been approached by a real estate agent, two stockbrokers, someone self styling themselves as a Bitcoin investment expert, a pool maintenance company guy, a construction guy, someone that remodels kitchens. you see where I'm going with this? Some of these guys are legitimate business owners just going about trying to get new customers in the most annoying way possible, friending them on Facebook and then pming the piss out of them.

But I'm pretty sure all of the investment guys are just different versions of a scammer. Particularly the stockbrokers and the Bitcoin guy. It's morphed into the kind of situation where I said no fifty times and they come back demanding my business.

Why am I writing about this? Because this is all a new wrinkle in the internet's oldest separate you from your money scamming. Documenting these fools behavior. Sometimes has happened online because for two years now de nada and suddenly I am flooded with dozens of these jerks over the last week. As if I'm going to hire a broker who pms people randomly on Facebook. Is anyone really stupid enough to fall for that?

Bottomless Betty and Blocking the Aunt Heap

  The Chesapeake Bay Bridge last weekend. So where have I been? Back to Louisiana and then up to Maryland. I wanted to check on my mother in her assisted living. It didn't go well at all, even if I stayed ten days. One of my aunts in the Aunt Heap nicknamed my mother 'Bottomless Betty' after she suddenly developed the inability to wear bottoms at all, no pants, no panties, no skirts. It was most bizarre and had a sudden onset. Her dementia has gone haywire in the few months she's been in assisted living. I'm not entirely sure she knew who I was either. This was a shock, her mental status slid so fast it was scary. Did what I could, talked to the folks in the admin office seeking a way to help her. My mother's doctor had tried a drug to slow the dementia but all it did was cause my mother to hallucinate.   Got home on Tuesday night, taking that long airplane ride from Washington, DC to my home near Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Strange Days and Orchids

Water feature from the Orchid Garden near San Jose. Well, it's been a strange week or two. I've lost days to this silly ankle thing. Took off the boot at a week to start doing physical therapy movements, made it two days and now the boot is back on and I'm down to two pain pills. It's healing so slowly this time. Have to do a medical follow up this week. Several days ago we went to a party for a lady we know who is throwing in the towel and going home to the U.S.A. Katie was trying to do that thing that is impossible here on the Gold Coast -- live as a gringo without a steady monthly income. Even a social security pension will not cut it here. It's expensive, but likely not as expensive as life in the U.S.A. is getting lately. Read that there has been a 40% jump in the price of vegetables and fruits last month.
