Cleaning Up, Moving Around and the Same Old

 I've been busy today. Over three weeks ago we had a crew of guys come in to redo the roof and then they moved on to the ceiling in the master bedroom.

 This was the master bedroom suite two weeks ago. It was quite the job! The house has had several alterations since building, adding on the large master suite after the first two years it was built, bumping out the living room, kitchen and adding a maids room. The living room, master bedroom and kitchen have cathedral raised ceilings, the rest of the bedrooms jewel box ceilings with recessed lighting. 

All these alterations had made for a roof with strange angles and steep pitches in places, leading to a leak here in the master bedroom at the very beginning of rainy season. 

I dread these repairs for a couple of reason. One is strange people in and out of the house, dust, dirt, noise. Not to mention the fumes of drying paint and caulking and such making my asthma go insane.

But a week and a few days after they rolled out the fumes from the ceiling paint seemed to have faded. So today was a thorough scrub, and room resets in the master, the guest room, and the sewing room I was using last week. 

The master bedroom took forever! The guys picked up and cleaned up after themselves better than most, but there was still a lot to be done. Add in that it's a huge room, or rather, rooms interconnecting. There's a dressing room area with 3 ten foot long closets, a living room sort of area with a love seat and a television in a cabinet, and then the actual bedroom-bedroom with my desk, a fifteen foot long tv cabinet, and our California King waterbed. It's a lot of acreage and right where they were working. I had construction dust and the odd paint smear to clear up.

Didn't touch the room with Jim's office set up in one of the other bedrooms. After discovery that not using the air conditioning very often in the other guest room and the sewing room  means the occasional small iguana getting into the system and pooping on the beds one of the things I really wanted to do was move all the beds under the air conditioning units. No more surprises when you go to sleep in another room for any reason. I moved the beds against the windows, away from the units. Really changes the entire looks of the rooms.

The sewing room. I was so tempted to take a nap in there once I moved my desk back to the master bedroom and moved the bed to the window where the desk was. I just love the purple quilt and afghan in that light yellow room. This might turn into a beloved reading nook for me. I like that I can easily change the entire looks of the room simply by changing out the quilts.

Bottomless Betty and Blocking the Aunt Heap

  The Chesapeake Bay Bridge last weekend. So where have I been? Back to Louisiana and then up to Maryland. I wanted to check on my mother in her assisted living. It didn't go well at all, even if I stayed ten days. One of my aunts in the Aunt Heap nicknamed my mother 'Bottomless Betty' after she suddenly developed the inability to wear bottoms at all, no pants, no panties, no skirts. It was most bizarre and had a sudden onset. Her dementia has gone haywire in the few months she's been in assisted living. I'm not entirely sure she knew who I was either. This was a shock, her mental status slid so fast it was scary. Did what I could, talked to the folks in the admin office seeking a way to help her. My mother's doctor had tried a drug to slow the dementia but all it did was cause my mother to hallucinate.   Got home on Tuesday night, taking that long airplane ride from Washington, DC to my home near Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Strange Days and Orchids

Water feature from the Orchid Garden near San Jose. Well, it's been a strange week or two. I've lost days to this silly ankle thing. Took off the boot at a week to start doing physical therapy movements, made it two days and now the boot is back on and I'm down to two pain pills. It's healing so slowly this time. Have to do a medical follow up this week. Several days ago we went to a party for a lady we know who is throwing in the towel and going home to the U.S.A. Katie was trying to do that thing that is impossible here on the Gold Coast -- live as a gringo without a steady monthly income. Even a social security pension will not cut it here. It's expensive, but likely not as expensive as life in the U.S.A. is getting lately. Read that there has been a 40% jump in the price of vegetables and fruits last month. Deporting the folks that do all the grunt work there was one very bad idea mixed with those insano tariffs. We have high tariffs here and it inhibits the amo...
