Intensify Your Organism!

Yes, yes, we are COVID free here in Guanacaste finally! Sadly this was one of the few pieces of good news running across my social media, news feed and comment filters.

That title was the first line in a piece of spam stuck in the spam filter at NLQ this morning. Usually they are not that amusing. I have to laugh at these Nigerian come ons. The next line guaranteed you up to a  15 inch growth in penis size. Ha! How is that desirable? And of course the phone number and email resolve to... Nigeria!

Sort of encompasses the flaming two stepping goat rodeo of the last few days. Asthmageddon again. To steal a song lyric from an obscure song "Brain on bed, where am I? Liverpool, Leeds, Miami?"

I started swimming again. It triggered this crap again. Go figure. Yay drugs! Boo feeling like shit.

It looks likely that this Tuesday we'll be heading into the dark heart of contagion, San Jose. One of our good friends is bailing. He's catching one of the few hastily organized flights back to the mainland through the Embassy. He needs a ride. We tried to talk him into taking a bus, but he is refusing. Elderly and scared, going right back into the infectious stew that is the U.S. right now.

He's leaving his car with us, on our gated finca, with the keys asking us to drive it some. It' s not much of a car, an ancient Jeep, but it runs. His things are going into storage and he's giving up his house nearby. Both Jim and I think he's not coming back. Hope we do not get stuck with an abandoned car we cannot have licensed.

He's nuts to be going in my opinion. We're having the cases dropping off mightily here, unlike the States where death rates keep climbing. The healthcare here is so much better than there. It's peaceful and calm even if we're restricted to home. There are no demonstrations, or political fighting. He's risking his residency here, they'll likely make him reapply. Which is costly and time consuming. Another two to five thousand dollars out of pocket.

This is going to be one expensive trip for him too. Over a thousand just for the plane ticket on a ride that usually runs 300 to 400 each. He's paying us the princely sum of two hundred bucks to drive him down. Costco/Price Smart is going to get that money right way as we're making a shopping run. He's outlaying big bucks for an American hotel chain next to the airport, and for one of the few legal cab rides there the next morning.

But I understand why he's doing this. He's panicked and fearful, afraid he might not ever seen his grown children and grandchildren again. I hope this helps him, but I fear he's going into the mouth of the lion by his actions.

I am more determined than ever to stay here. There are so many big advantages to just staying put, staying home, and sheltering in place.
